The collect, or gathering prayer, for this coming Sunday reminds us of the great gift we have received in Jesus Christ, both by the example of his life and teachings, and also in his death and resurrection, which opened for us the way of eternal life.
We pray for grace to “receive thankfully the fruits of his redeeming work,” and also grace to then to “follow daily in the steps of his most blessed life…”
The Holy Habits of daily prayer and study, giving, corporate worship, and serving others can be good reminders of the disciple’s (yes, you are, or can be one!) daily quest for ways in which to serve the God who gives all.
So we give our thanks to God, and then live our lives in such a way that they show forth our thanks and God’s great gifts.
Let us pray:
“Almighty God, you have given your only Son to be for us a sacrifice for sin, and also an example of godly life: Give us grace to receive thankfully the fruits of his redeeming work, and to follow daily in the blessed steps of his most holy life; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.”
Peace and blessing,
Many stores are having sales on school supplies, including backpacks. Please consider adding a few extra items to your shopping cart for our friends and neighbors served by our local food pantries. Gift cards are also most welcome! Your donations make a difference.
